This hands-on, three-day workshop introduces participants to the process of developing, testing, and publishing tools for the Galaxy platform. Led by experienced Galaxy developers, the course combines practical instruction with individual mentoring, enabling participants to work on tools relevant to their own research use cases. Learning goals:
By the end of the workshop, participants will be able to:
Wrap a Galaxy tool from scratch and leave with a submission-ready tool
Apply the Intergalactic Utilities Commission's (IUC) best-practice standards to ensure their tools pass review smoothly
Use datatables and data managers to supply tools with reference data
Gain hands-on experience with Galaxy Interactive Tools
Develop their own tool with direct, one-on-one support from experienced Galaxy developers
Prerequisites:
A machine running Linux, or Linux via WSL (Windows Subsystem for Linux)
Basic knowledge of shell scripting and command-line tools
Familiarity with Python and/or R is helpful but not required
Please ensure that Planemo, VS Code (with the Galaxy Tools extension), Docker, and Miniforge are installed prior to the event
A detailed pre-requisites document will be shared with participants closer to the event to support setup.
